A Brief Overview of British Literary Periods

A Brief Overview of British Literary Periods In spite of the fact that history specialists have portrayed the times of British writing in various manners after some time, basic divisions are laid out below.â Early English (Anglo-Saxon) Period (450â€1066) The term Anglo-Saxon originates from two Germanic clans, the Angles and the Saxons. This time of writing goes back to their attack (alongside the Jutes) of Celtic England around 450. The period finishes in 1066, when Norman France, under William, vanquished England. A great part of the primary portion of this period, before the seventh century, in any event, had oral writing. A ton of the writing during this time was an interpretation of something different or lawful, clinical, or strict in nature; be that as it may, a few works, for example, Beowulf,â and those by period artists Caedmon and Cynewulf, are significant. Center English Period (1066â€1500) The Middle English time frame sees an immense progress in the language, culture, and way of life of England and results in what we can perceive today as a type of â€Å"modern† (unmistakable) English. At long last, the Commonwealth Age was so named for the period between the finish of the English Civil War and the reclamation of the Stuart government. This is when Oliver Cromwell, a Puritan, drove Parliament, who administered the country. Others state it started in 1789 with the beginning of the French Revolution, and still, others accept that 1798, the distribution year for William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s book Lyrical Ballads, is its actual start. The timeframe closes with the section of the Reform Bill (which flagged the Victorian Era) and with the demise of Sir Walter Scott. American writing has its own Romantic period, however ordinarily when one discusses Romanticism, one is alluding to this incredible and assorted time of British writing, maybe the most mainstream and notable of every single abstract age. This time incorporates crafted by such juggernauts as Wordsworth, Coleridge, William Blake, Lord Byron, John Keats, Charles Lamb, Mary Wollstonecraft, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Thomas De Quincey, Jane Austen, and Mary Shelley. There is additionally a minor pe riod, likewise very famous (between 1786â€1800), called the Gothic time.  Writers of note for this period incorporate Matthew Lewis, Anne Radcliffe, and William Beckford. The Victorian Period (1832â€1901) This period is named for the rule of Queen Victoria, who rose to the seat in 1837,â and it goes on until her demise in 1901. It was a period of incredible social, strict, scholarly, and monetary issues, proclaimed by the entry of the Reform Bill, which extended democratic rights. The period has regularly been partitioned into â€Å"Early† (1832â€1848), â€Å"Mid† (1848â€1870) and â€Å"Late† (1870â€1901) periods or into two stages, that of the Pre-Raphaelites (1848â€1860) and that of Aestheticism and Decadence (1880â€1901). This period is in solid conflict with the Romantic time frame for being the most mainstream, compelling, and productive period in the entirety of English (and world) writing. Albeit a brief period (and a short rule for Edward VII), the time incorporates fantastic great writers, for example, Joseph Conrad, Ford Madox Ford, Rudyard Kipling, H.G. Wells, and Henry James (who was conceived in America however who burned through the greater part of his composing vocation in England), striking artists, for example, Alfred Noyes and William Butler Yeats, just as producers, for example, James Barrie, George Bernard Shaw, and John Galsworthy. The Georgian Period (1910â€1936) The Georgian time frame for the most part alludes to the rule of George V (1910â€1936) yet once in a while additionally incorporates the rules of the four progressive Georges from 1714â€1830. Here, we allude to the previous depiction as it applies sequentially and covers, for instance, the Georgian artists, for example, Ralph Hodgson, John Masefield, W.H. Davies, and Rupert Brooke. Georgian verse today is normally viewed as crafted by minor artists anthologized by Edward Marsh. The topics and topic would in general be provincial or peaceful in nature, rewarded carefully and customarily as opposed to with enthusiasm (like was found in the past periods) or with experimentation (as would be found in the up and coming current period).â The Modern Period (1914â€?) The cutting edge time frame customarily applies to works composed after the beginning of World War I. Basic highlights incorporate strong experimentation with topic, style, and structure, enveloping account, stanza, and dramatization. W.B. Yeats’ words, â€Å"Things self-destruct; the inside can't hold† are regularly alluded to while portraying the center precept or â€Å"feeling† of pioneer concerns. Probably the most prominent scholars of this period, among many, incorporate the authors James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Aldous Huxley, D.H. Lawrence, Joseph Conrad, Dorothy Richardson, Graham Greene, E.M. Forster, and Doris Lessing; the artists W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, W.H. New Criticism additionally showed up as of now, drove by any semblance of Woolf, Eliot, William Empson, and o thers, which revitalized artistic analysis all in all. It is hard to state whether innovation has finished, however we realize that postmodernism has created after and from it; until further notice, the class stays continuous. The Postmodern Period (1945â€?) The postmodern period starts about the time that World War II finished. Many trust it is an immediate reaction to innovation. Some state the period finished around 1990, however it is likely too early to pronounce this period closed. Poststructuralist abstract hypothesis and analysis created during this time.

You Decide Virginia Pollard Essay Example

You Decide Virginia Pollard Essay Example You Decide Virginia Pollard Essay You Decide Virginia Pollard Essay You Decide Project Virginia Pollard filled in as a clerk and agent for Teddy Supplies, a family-claimed chain of film creation hardware gracefully stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. During a normal exhibition assessment, Virginias chief at Teddys griped that she made an excessive number of individual calls when she worked in the West Orange store. The manager noticed this on Virginias yearly audit, and cautioned all her own calls to an absolute minimum while at work. Before long, Teddy moved Pollard to monitor film gear in the principle distribution center behind the retail facade; Virginia couldnt make individual calls there, and her work got model. Her presentation assessment three months after her exchange was meeting desires with no negative remarks. Virginia Pollard was the main lady working in the distribution center, and she was regularly the survivor of tricks executed by her six male associates. Her colleagues taped her drawers shut, kept her out of the watchman shack she sat in to watch the stock, filled the gatekeeper shack with waste, and supported a forklift up to the entryway and made it reverse discharge in her ear. One day a Teddy conveyance driver sat in Pollards seat and, when she attempted to push him out of it, he bowed her over his lap and hit her. Pollards new chief, Steve King, once in a while implemented Teddys rules against smoking, clowning around, foul language, and lewd behavior, and frequently enjoyed such practices himself. Teddys had a composed lewd behavior arrangement which incorporated a technique for representatives to report inappropriate behavior the strategy included recording a grumbling with the immediate director except if the immediate administrator was the culprit. In that occasion, the representative was to document the objection online at www. ReportTeddysafely. com. The structure for revealing was a one page report. A duplicate of the approach which Virginia Pollard marked is situated here. The approach explicitly states, in case of an infringement of this arrangement, workers should report the infringement to their immediate administrator, except if doing so would put the representative in danger of further segregation or provocation. All things considered, the representative should report utilizing the organization site structure which will present the occurrence to Human Resources. Pollard never recorded a grievance with Steve King, her director; she additionally didn't document a grumbling at the site, in spite of the fact that she asserted she told King in July 2008 that she believed she was being singled out by the folks she worked with. She guarantees Steve King advised her to develop a few balls and to get over herself. She affirmed during the NJ Human Rights Commission hearing that she attempted to record a mysterious grumbling however the site wasnt working the day she attempted to do as such. In August of 2008, King and the other distribution center laborers put a sign on a truck that read HARDHAT REQUIRED/BRA OPTIONAL. Lord and another representative brought Pollard over to take a gander at the sign and urged her to do as it said. She can't and attempted to leave. Lord vowed not to report her to the executives, whereupon she lifted one side of her shirt in the back and uncovered piece of her bra on her posterior. Upper administration scholarly of the episode that October by a colleague who recorded a mysterious grievance on the web. After a concise examination, Pollard was terminated for uncovering her bra. None of the men were restrained. A man supplanted Pollard in the gatekeeper shack. That November, Pollard recorded an accuse of sex segregation of the New Jersey Commission on Human Rights. The Commission found that Pollard had been the casualty of sex separation and that Teddys purposes behind terminating her were guise, and granted her back wages and harms. Teddys spoke to the circuit court, remembering for their case that Pollard had submitted a few infractions, remembering taking an interest for the beating occurrence. They detailed that Pollard had neglected to report any inappropriate behavior and incorporated a duplicate of their lewd behavior arrangement as a feature of their barrier case. The Circuit Court found that Teddy had valid justification to train Pollard yet that terminating her was in actuality unique treatment when contrasted and the articulate absence of order given to King. The circuit court switched the Commissions grant of harms since it accepted that Teddy had been on the whole correct to train Pollard, yet they requested Teddys to restore Pollard to her old position. Pollard spoke to the New Jersey Court of Appeals and wouldn't acknowledge her activity back. Lewd behavior Policy: Teddys Supplies Sexual Harassment Policy All representatives of Teddys Supplies are required to peruse and follow this strategy. This strategy was actualized on January 1, 2002, and is as a result until further notification. Extent of Policy This approach precludes any illicit separation or provocation of any representative by another representative, collaborator, director, or seller. All workers are qualified for a badgering and separation free condition. The organization has a zero-resilience approach as for badgering or separation. A protected workplace is the objective of Teddys Supplies. Duty and Reporting structure All workers are answerable for following this arrangement. In case of an infringement of this approach, workers should report the infringement to their immediate boss, except if doing so would put the representative in danger of further segregation or badgering. All things considered, the representative should report utilizing the organization site structure which will present the episode to Human Resources. Representatives have the alternative of secretly announcing episodes, yet doing so doesn't give the worker any insurance under the law. (Access the detailing structure on the advantages page of the intranet. Conduct Banned All illicit, biased, or irritating conduct is disallowed. Control summoned Employees found to damage this approach might be fired, suspended from work without pay, or moved. This record will be viewed as the notice in case of end. No other admonition is required. In the occasion a suspension or transference is an aftereffect of an infringement of this strategy, any second offense will be met with prompt excusal. In the occasion a protest against a worker is made, the representative will have the privilege of protection at a meeting preceding end. This meeting will be held by the CEO and Director of HR, or by a council made at their solicitation or bearing. No reprisal Employees won't be fought back against submitting for legitimate questions. In the occasion it is resolved that a worker has documented a false grumbling, this will be reason for disciplinary activity, including suspension without pay, transference or end. Constraint period All objections for infringement of this approach must be made inside 90 days of the event of the conduct or they are deferred under this strategy. Marked: 2004 Virginia Pollard Date: 8-12-You Decide Question #1: Teddys Supplies CEO has requested that you educate him on the realities with respect to the case, and your assessment of their potential risk. He needs to settle the case. Compose a reminder to him which expresses your perspective on whether the organization is presented to risk on all issues you feel are in play. Remember for your reminder any laws which apply and any precedential bodies of evidence either possibly in support of Teddys case which sway risk. Remember for the notice your proposed proposal of settlement to Virginia. Back up your offer utilizing your examination of the body of evidence against Teddys. (Focuses: 30) As a counsel, I would educate Teddys Supplies CEO the circumstance is Virginia Pollard, the main lady working in the distribution center, is documenting charges against the organization for inappropriate behavior. The truth is the representatives in the distribution center are liable of different treatment towards Virginia Pollard as stockroom laborers put a sign on a truck that read HARDHAT REQUIRED/BRA OPTIONAL alongside other unfair activities (tricks, beating episode, and so on ). In any case, per the Sexual Harassment Policy actualized by the organization, Virginia didn't ever record inappropriate behavior grievances whenever allowed the chance to. As an end, I trust Teddys Supplies as an organization, is answerable for the antagonistic workplace made around Virginia Pollard; my recommendation is offer a settlement to Virginia Pollard in the measure of $5,000. I accept the $5,000 is an adequate settlement on the grounds that as indicated by Burlington Industries v. Kimberly Ellerth case, I accept that Virginia Pollard was been a casualty of an antagonistic workplace. To Sir With Love - Change Essays - Educational Psychology

To Sir With Love - Change Change: Man's capacity to adjust his reasoning In the novel To Sir With Love different human qualities are depicted. Of these, the possibility that people can adjust and change their perspective is by all accounts exhibited all through the story. In the novel, both the instructor, Braithewaite, and his understudies wind up going through numerous progressions that eventually bring about their coming to change their perspective about one another. Throughout everyday life, as in this fictionalized account, the capacity to adjust to one's' general surroundings self is a very significant attribute. In my own life, this has occured on numerous events. Subsequently, it very well may be said that to have the option to change and adjust and our ways at taking a gander at things to our to our circumstances we are really at advantage. In the story, Braithewaite starts with a lot of assumptions about his understudies. He anticipates that them should be unintelligent, harsh, racially prejudiced kids with no future-scarcely meriting his regard. Be that as it may, as he sees later, they are the all out contrary energies of his of his underlying thoughts. This is bit by bit appeared through their activities, for example, for example, the understudies all going to visit the place of their dark companion during his emergency, or their figuring out how to treat each other with respect;they figured out how to address each other as their last names, inthe instance of the young men, and Miss, for the young ladies. For the students, they figured out how to regard and truly learn from their teacher, something they had never minded to do. Braithewaite helped them to break out of the example of prejudice and unpleasantness that society had put them in. They started to regard themselves and afterward to regard others. To put it plainly, clearly both the educator furthermore, his understudies had the option to adjust their perspective to their advantage;they didn't stall out in their unique arrangement of biased thoughts about one another. This is a key purpose of the novel, this thought individuals can alter their way of living. In my own encounters, I have wound up changing my ways as I have become more astute. One model would be my relationship with my more seasoned sister. As a youngster, I continually battled with her over everything and never attempted to get the chance to get her. Bit by bit, however, as I developed more seasoned, I figured out how to acknowledge and to get her. Presently, however we despite everything contend about a great deal of things, I feel my relationship with her has improved and I am starting to get her. This has taken a total change in my perspective on her;I now take a gander at her as a pleasant individual with a lot to offer me, instead of as my shrewdness sister. This has been a genuine case of my having the option to change my perspective towards a person. The idea of man having the option to adjust his ways is a significant component to his living in a general public, for example, our own. We all must figure out how to acknowledge singular hardships, and we all must have the option to adjust to our ever-evolving world. World pioneers must modify their perspective about a developing underdeveloped nation, or a developing superpower. A representative must adjust to have the option to play out his activity adequetly. We all have needed to continuously adjust so as to live respectively as a generally strong, all around requested society. Unmistakably everything is gone consistent in our universe of progress aside from change itself. It is our capacity to learn and to adjust our ways that has presented people similar to they are today. As an animal groups, we have gone from living as bare savages to moderately living as generally cultivated people. This could never have been conceivable had it not been for our capacity to change our methods of thinking. For people, at that point, it is our capacity to change that has put us where we are today and is our key to advance headway, both as social orders what's more, as individuals.

Oedipus Displays Characteristics - Free Essay Example

You called me blind but you have your eyes but see not where you live in sin (KO 37). In the play Oedipus the King, Sophocles tells a story about a man who blindly reaches his long-awaited fate. Throughout the development of this story, many tragedies occur. This play is recognized as a tragedy because of Oedipus journey of a tragic hero including his rise to power, hamartia, and tragic downfall, the tragic irony of the audiences awareness of his fate, and the tragic action of his defeat. Oedipus displays characteristics of a tragic hero as he beholds power as the king of Thebes, yet his hamartia leads to his destruction as he stumbles upon the truth about his past. Initially, his power is revealed when the citizens of Thebes refer to him as the greatest of men because he saves their beloved city when he kills the sphinx. Additionally, they ask him to restore our city to life during the disastrous plague (KO 26). Due to the confidence that the people of Thebes have in him, Oedipus begins the play in high stature. He is a renowned king and gains the love and appreciation of his people by powerfully leading the city of Thebes. Oedipus influence signifies the respect and the reliance that the citizens of the kingdom invest in him. In comparison, Louis Charles wrote an article describing the reasons why Death of a Salesman is a tragedy. Similar to Oedipus, the main character, Willy, is considered a tragic hero because of his high power which made his downfall significant. These two examples correlate because of the similarities between the journeys of both protagonists in each writing. Like Willy, Oedipus does not remain in his high position throughout the story but begins his demise first through his hamartia. Hamartia is a fatal flaw that leads to the downfall of a tragic hero and Oedipus illustrates this with his conceit. Oedipus arrogance is discovered when Tiresias attempts to proclaim his fate. In the confrontation, Oedipus continuously denies the truth as he replies back, It has but not for you; no, not for you, Shameless and brainless, sightless, senseless sot! (KO 36). Oedipus ego develops into his defining character flaw which hinders his ability to accept his fate. Not only does he display this attitude towards Tiresias, but he exhibits the same attitude to the gods as well. Finally, the tragic downfall of Oedipus is seen when he discovers the truth about his family, exiling himself from Thebes. Before his banishment, he declares that the people will never see the crime [he has] committed (KO, 68). Oedipus gouges his eyes out and becomes blind, like Tiresias, and loses his power as king. He is exiled from Thebes and experiences the final element of a tragic hero, peripety: a sudden and unexpected change of fate. As the messenger gives evidence of Oedipus fate, Oedipus whole life is changed. Thus, Oedipus reveals himself as a tragic hero through these circumstances. Before the entrance of the characters, the audience already knows the outcome of the story, even before the character himself does. This is known as tragic irony, and it is what makes this classic play such a riveting tragedy. For example, as Oedipus tries to solve Laius murder he threatens, He will suffer the less. His fate will be nothing worse than banishment (KO 31). Due to Oedipuss persistence to finding the murderer, he condemns them to be banished from Thebes. Unbeknownst to him, he is dooming himself by trying to find the assassin, for he fails to realize the future consequences of this decree. In addition, as he was looking, he states, the killer of Laius, whoever he was might think to turn his hand against me: Thus serving Lauis I serve myself (KO 29). This quote demonstrates Oedipus blindness because he says this without realizing that, as the prophecy first proclaimed, he was Lauis killer. The irony is that he is so focused on finding the killer when in reality it is himself. He is so wrapped around this crime that he does not listen to other peoples claims. Additionally, he claims to fight for him [Laius] now, as I would fight for my father (KO 30). Oedipus indicates the graveness of Laius murder unaware of the hidden truth, for he refers to his father as a comparison but does not realize the reality that his is Laius son. This is yet another example of Oedipus blindness. Through tragic irony Oedipus eventually finds his fate. Oedipus and Jocasta face many obstacles on their journey as they realize the foul actions they unknowingly commit. Jocasta and Oedipus finally acknowledge the truth of the prophecy realizing that Oedipus killed his father, Laius, and married his mother Jocasta. Upon revealing her true relation with Oedipus, Jocasta proclaims light let this be the last time I see you (KO 69). After putting the pieces together and realizing Oedipus true identity, Jocasta locks herself in her bedroom, crying, as she hangs herself from a noose and commits suicide. She cannot cope with the embarrassment from the people of Thebes and the karma from cursing the gods. Despite attempting to kill her son and rejecting the prophecy, she was still unable to overcome fate. Likewise, Oedipus removes his eyes when he uncovers his past saying, be dark forever how eyes that saw these you should have never seen (KO 73). Oedipus feels he has no one to trust anymore. Since he was born, everything he has seen seems like an evil lie. He believes his eyes have failed him, removing them in disgust. He can not handle seeing the world after hearing the unvarnished truth of his sin. Oedipus requests in agony, Banish me from this country as fast as you can (KO 79). Oedipus karma for his grave sin results in his banishment from the city of Thebes. Although his people do not force anything upon him, Oedipus banishes himself. Similarly to Jocasta, he cannot take the embarrassment he will receive when his people find out. Oedipus downfall is finished Oedipus the King is a tragedy because of its presence of a tragic hero, tragic irony, and tragic action. Oedipus is considered a tragic hero because of the power he has in the beginning of the play, his arrogance which causes him to fall from his station, and his downfall which ended in his tragedy. Further, through the audiences knowledge of plot elements that the characters themselves do not know, a tragic irony is established, as readers await Oedipus eventual demise. These characteristics, evident throughout the writing of Oedipus the King and ending in the downfall of the once renowned, Oedipus, cement the play as a tragedy.

Michael Jordan Leadership Paper - 1480 Words

Study of a Contemporary leader When sitting down and thinking about a leader that I wanted to write about, and eventually stand up in front of people and talk about was a lot harder of a thing to do than I originally thought. There are so many different types of leaders that people follow and are drawn to, for so many different reasons. Whether those reasons follow a certain beliefs like that of cults and religions, or if they simply follow leaders because they were just born with all of the necessary skills and attributes that helps them relate to people, everyone follows a certain type of leader because of their own personal reasons. But even still, only standing at 5’11 as a sophomore Michael Jordan did not make varsity and had to play on the junior varsity team. This drove him to work even harder because he was fully confident that he could play with the older kids. Every single day after his normal basketball practice, Michael would go home and worked on his game even more, day in and day out. This drive and determination helped him get on the varsity team the next two years. He went on to average 25 points a game his junior and senior year at Laney High School in North Carolina. Michael’s senior year he received the nomination to play in the McDonalds All American Team. Also during his senior season Michael was offered a full ride scholarship by North Carolinas coach Dean Smith to play for the Tar Heels. With Jordan having such a competitive edge, motivation, charisma, and drive he was able to become the most important player on their team, and a strong leader for the players around him. During his time at North Carolina, Michael Jordan led his team to victory in the NCAA Division 1 championship in 1982, when he scored a buzzer beater against Georgetown University to win. Giving Hope to Families in Palliative Care and Implications

Questions: 1. Giving hope to families in palliative care and implications for practice? 2. When end-of-life care is discussed, it is usual to first consider adult patients receiving palliative care. However, end-of -life care also pertains to children. What differences exist when communicating to the family of a paediatric patient receiving palliative care to that of an adult? Answers: Giving Hope To Families In Palliative Care And Implication For Practice 1: Summary Palliative care is a modern approach. It improves the quality of life of patients and their families for life-threatening illness. At the very first palliative care is applicable in the course of illness. Death in our society is viewed generally with anxiety and discomfort. Especially in case of children palliative care is very important. The main challenges of nurse are to take care of a dying child. The aim of the palliative care is essential to help children for life threatening illness. Hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. Hope plays a vital role in helping overcome the grief for the patient and also to the family of a dying child. Depression is caused by hopelessness. The parent who know that their child will die soon, are losing their hope. But it should not be discouraged by nurses because it does not mean that the child or the family is in denial of the inevitable prognosis. Honest and open communication is needed. The discu ssion is important with the families and client at the time of diagnosis so that they can face the real situation and make a better realistic decision for a palliative care. If the family of a child permits preservation of hope, undoubtedly the way of communicating affects the family of a child. A doctor may also suggest having some hope for the ill child. It can provide the family with comfort in terms of the uncertain future. Hope is the main thing for a family of a patient who are preparing for death. 2: 1. Palliative care for child is closely related to the adult but their needs are very different. Palliative care of child describes total care of body, mind and spirit for the child (de Lima, 2012). It is vital to give support to the family of a child. Stress, pain and symptoms are focused for a pediatric palliative care. The aim is to evaluate the quality of life for both the family and the child (O'Shea and Bennett Kanarek, 2013). A team of doctors provide the pediatric palliative care. The complexity in illness of a child is more than the adults. Because of the different anatomy and physiology the same illness acts differently 2. The challenges are: The family of a pediatric care patient should give support to the patient as long as it is required. Also plays a vital and main role for improvement of the condition of patient. The family should maintain the advice of the expert. The family should have knowledge about the illness and also the symptoms. The family should be able to manage the immediate condition if any abnormality is observed in the patient. It is clear that the patient does not long to live but it is not informed to the patient.3. Considering the case study 1, it is clear that the patient does not have much time left but the family still appear hopeful. Expectation, feeling and desire for a certain thing are together called hope (Bergstraesser, 2013). It has some positive and negative aspect for encouraging hope. The positive aspect is that the family is not giving up and still they have faith for the patient to cure (Ostendorf, 2015). And the negative point is that the family is not acceptin g the real and present situation. If the spiritual, psychological and social support to the family may improve the quality of life of the family then it is beneficial for the family. References: Bergstraesser, (2013). He proposed this theory in 1940Maslow believed that there are different stages of life that people moved through and have five needs that motivate their behavior. He called these needsphysiological, love, safety and esteem, social and self-actualization. (Neely, Adams, Kennerley, 2002) Physiological needs:It represents the basic survival needs such as clothes, food, shelter and sexual satisfaction. Safety needs: These needs refer to the physical safety within your environment. Social Needs:It talks about companionship, which includes the need for love, friendship and belonging (Kaplan, 2001). Esteem needs: This category encompasses the need for recognition, status and self-respect and the things that make a person feel better. Self-actualization: This category is about achieving your potential, excelling in your life and personal achievement. The advantage of this theory is that it provides a summary of human needs and helps to focus on a specific need shared by the target audience whereas the disadvantage of this theory is that it is cultural bound and lacks empirical support for the rank ordering of the needs (Boris, Kopczynski, 2013). 2A) Solution to work based problems Work based issue are very common these days that may arises due to culture, hieratical structure, top management, policies and other factors. In many cases, it has been observed that the employees within the organization are free to discuss any kind of problems with the managerial heads. . The leader should facilitate open communication and the build trust within the team (Upadhaya, Munir, Blount, 2014). Open-minded People: The people are open-minded and adapted some of the strategies in order to cope up with the culture of the organization. They need to understand the new policies and culture. Their mind should be open for change and bringing in new environment and change as per the new business environment. Those organizations, which are rigid, are less likely to grow. A solid foundation strategy: The foundation of the company is strong and is more culturally oriented and open toward new business environment. They have good management and enhancing employee policies, which brings motivation and efficiency in the system (Morgenstern, 2004). 2b) Types of communication There are four types of communication that takes place within Harrods and are given below. As per the need and the type of stakeholder, the right form of communication can be chosen (Patrick, Bruce, 2000). Internal and external communication Oral and written communication Formal and informal communication Verbal and non- verbal communication. Barriers of communication: There common barriers of communication are mentioned below: Use of Jargon or complicated terminology. Emotional taboos and barriers where people feel it is difficult to express their feelings. Difference in viewpoint and the perception. Physical disability such as speech difficulty and hearing problems Physical barrier for non- verbal communication, unable to understand gestures, body language, non- verbal cues (Derek, Laura, Stephen, 2004). Language difficulty and difference to understand the unfamiliar accent. Cultural differences where one person is from another country and the other is from another country. Measures to overcome the communication barrier Clarity of ideas: The communicators should have clear idea that what they are communicating with each other. They should clearly know the agendas and the outcome for the communication they are doing. Understand the need of receiver: Both the parties should know what is the need of the receiver, what he or she is looking for and which mode of communication will be suitable for the receiver and accordingly plan the communication. Be aware of content and language of message: Parties should know that which language will be suitable for each other to communicate so that the message sent is clear and the content is as per the agenda and goal of the communication. Other measures that can be effectively used are consistency of message, proper feedback, follow-up of communication, consultation with other before communicating, Convey things which are helpful and have values for the receiver and be a good listener (William, Kazanas, 2004). 2c) Time management strategies Time management is most important factor for any organization and using time effectively increases the efficiency and achieving targets. Few of the strategies are given below: Set Priorities: The organization of Harrods has undertaken some of the strategies where Person have the list and should know what are more important. Everyone should set the priorities and should work towards achieving those. (Hill, Westbrook, 2010). Use a planning tool: There are various planning tools available online as well on mobile, which helps in planning the tasks The organization uses these types of tools, which help in recording the information, jot down all the important points, and it helps in keeping the priorities set. Delegate: Delegation is a principle of management, which the organization follows in which one can get helps from the other person by assigning it to the subordinate or peers. This is how the work is divided between the team and everyone has a set of target and responsibility. Manage external time wasters: There are various factors that waste time within our day schedule. One should void those factors and remain focused on what the days priorities are. Avoid multi-tasking: Doing number of things at one time is not a good idea rather working on one task at one time and completing them accordingly saves the time as well as brings the efficiency in the work. For Harrodss all the above mentioned time saving strategies are important , they should imbibe that in the culture of the organization and everyone should follow it effectively. 2d) All the companies are working towards achieving the organizational objectives and earn profit but to achieve these objectives that should have a good team and should be able to achieve the targets they have set for the tasks. They should be able to meet the production targets or the selling targets. In order to achieve the same they should have clear set of objectives in the organization, they should evaluate their objectives and set priorities to complete the tasks. 3a) Dynamics Of Working With Others Morgenstern (2004) commented on the essential fact that working in a team is like sharing a common goal with the other teammates. Each organization has both informal and formal groups where managers encourage in effective building of team. The groups are so made that focuses towards accomplishment of the common goals and corporate goals. It is the responsibility of the team manager and the teammates of Harrods to initially identify the purpose of the entire team that is aligned with the missions, objectives and goals of the organization. The team agenda need to be clarified so that it can be measurable according to the resources of the team members. As per commented strategically by Barnlund (2008) the companies need to operate as per the objectives along with the priorities that are set up in the team. While making the changes, the team of Harrods also needs to focus on the unbiased, transparent as well as timely changes that will well align with the organizational missions and objectives. The manager of Harrods needs to communicate well with each individual of the team for a successful change and therefore focuses towards the consolidated improvements. In addition to this the organizational structure as well as design is so made that helps in achieving certain goals as well as focuses towards the allotment of responsibilities to the individual team members. From the viewpoint and outlook of Fifer (2010), the better will be the flexibility within the organization the better will be the working environment as well as group task. The group focuses towards the successful accomplishment of the work. 4a) SWOT analysis and brainstorming Swot analysis and brainstorming will help Harrods in understanding their business more deeply. They will be able to understand the current situation of the company as well as will be able to generate good new idea, which will help in the expansion. Both are discussed in detail below: SWOT analysis refers to the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It helps in studying the business environment, which is related to the strengths and weaknesses of the business and helps in understanding the opportunities and threats for the business (Barnlund, 2008). With the help of this, the management of Harrods brings the efficiency in the business by helping in understanding the complex business without using money and outside consultants. It also helps in understanding the business of Harrods in a better way, weaknesses can be addressed easily, opportunities can be capitalized on time, knowing the threats and taking the advantages of the strengths, it helps in making the business goals and the strategies that helps in achieving these goals (Koch, 2000). Brainstorming refers to the process to generate the solutions and creative ideas through intensive and free group discussion. Everyone in Harrods is free to participate and share his or her ideas aloud. They are free to make the proper analysis, discuss or criticize the ideas and in the end, they can evaluate the same. It helps in generating a lot of idea at one point of time, it is very much easy to teach and learn, it comparatively easy to prepare and moderate, a lot of material is not required a simple pen and paper helps, idea formation collectively and it saves a lot of time (Fifer, 2010). 4b) Problem solving strategies It is important to resolve the issues in the organization, if some problem arises the detailed analysis should be done and the problem should be overcome rather than sitting on the problem and looking for the solution to come. The steps to resolve the problems are given below: (Robbins, Judge, Millett, Boyle, 2011). Identify the issue Look for the root cause Brainstorming the solutions Select the right solution Apply and evaluate the impact of the solution Harrodss will use the above method or strategy to solve the problem arising in the organization. The impact will be the issues will be tackled one by one and can be solve in a better way (Barnlund, 2008). Conclusion: As per the case study the company, Harrods is a growing organization and in order to meet the current business needs which will help them grow and be more focused towards achieving organizational objectives. They should use techniques like SWOT analysis, brainstorming, and motivation theory of Maslow, Plan their work I a better way should have time-management-skill training programs and should work on building an effective communication channel for the organization. Case Study Air Asia Essay Example

Case Study: Air Asia Essay Problem Statement AirAsias attempts to expend its service offering into long-haul flights and gaining additional recognition and market share is consistent with owner Tony Fernades company goal; however, the strategy changes required to be a successful long-haul airline significantly differ from and conflict with its current resource base (i. e. aircraft types, hubs, employee skills) and core competencies and capabilities (i. e. cost and efficiency optimization/utilization) as a low-cost carrier (LCC) airline. Analysis The airline industry as a whole is quite competitive with multiple players and arious elements effecting the industry environment. AirAsia has developed a specific set of resources and core competencies that it has exploited in order to become the leading short-haul LCC in South East Asia. AirAsias strategy employs cost and efficiency optimization by utilizing its key resources; thus, possessing capabilities necessary for success. AirAsias tangible resources, including its fleet and hubs, enhance the companys low cost capabilities. Due to AirAsias selectivity in the type/model of aircrafts it purchases, both cost and efficiency can be capitalized. By limiting the variability in ircrafts, AirAsia is able to obtain economies in purchasing, its pool for spare parts is narrowed, thus reducing costs; mechanics and pilots specialized knowledge of the planes increases allowing for greater efficiency and reduced cost in maintenance, repairs, and flying. Although this strategy is ideal for AirAsia as a short-haul LLC, it is not transferrable to long-haul flights. AirAsias expansion and growth has resulted in adding hubs in densely populated South East Aisan cities. However, as a cost savings measure AirAsia utilizes secondary airports resulting in a competitive advantage. This strategy is transferrable to long-haul flights; however, it is reasonable to presume (based on AirAisas proposed expansion plan on page 628) AirAisas long-haul flights will be equired to fly into larger international airports and lease terminals in order to accommodate customers needs, thus increasing costs. Additionally, further risk revolves around the fact that expansion into long-haul flights would result in a significant increase in competition with reputable and established global airlines. Furthermore, such expansion places AirAsia in direct competition with government backed Malaysian Airlines (pg. 27). Although the idea of expansion into long-haul international flights is appealing, the risks involved with intense industry competition s well as the unsustainable low cost strategies should be a deterrent to AirAsias long-haul expansion. Additional conflicts exist between LCC strategies and long-haul success factors. AirAisa has thrived as an LLC based on the reduction of extrenious costs, thus an elimination of frills or amenities. The no frills strategy is very sustainable for short-haul flights (under 3. 5 hours) because customers needs are service to the mix flyers leave very satisfied. However, on longer flights, lack of frills, amenities and comforts may result in flyers negative perception of the airline. Although a flyer may initially believe a low cost, long flight with no amenities is palatable, it is likely the flyer will end up dissatisfied with lack of options while in the air; again a low cost strategy that is unlikely to remain sustainable in the long-haul market. With AirAsias implementation of point-to-point flights, streamlined and simple operations, as well as its unprecedented turnaround time, in the regional market, aircraft utilization is at a high while costs remain low. However, AirAsia will not be able to utilize its point-to-point cost reduction and aircraft utilization strategy. Long-haul flights will require more time in the sky with flyer layovers and a less streamlined flight schedule. Short regional flights allow AirAsia to serve a greater number of flyers over a shorter period of time at a lesser cost (example: 2 or 3 short- haul flights in the time it takes a single long flight). Lastly, due to the highly competitive nature and over saturation of international airlines, AirAsia may not realize the same aircraft utilization in long-haul flights as it does with short flights. Regionally, South East Asia is densely populated with a large market segment onsisting of budget leisure and business travelers that had been under served prior to AirAsia (pg. 628). By implementing low cost strategies, AirAsia was able to capture and capitalize on the underutilized segment. Unfortunately, due to industry saturation in international long haul flights, AirAsia would have to fght to obtain a strong customer base from established airlines by providing actual or perceived value while trying to maintain cost and utilization optimization. Another issue AirAsia may face should it overly focus on airline expansion is the fact that barriers to entry n South East Asia are relatively low. The main barrier to entry is the capital investment required to acquire aircrafts. South East Asia has experienced government deregulation of airlines which aided AirAsias growth and may attract new entrants. Additionally, the LCC airline model is easily replicable; several reputable regional LCC airlines exist (i. e. , the USs Southwest and Europes Ryanair) in which AirAisa adopted and adapted strategies for its growth and success. Due to the ease of strategy replication, new entrants may emerge in the South East Asian short- haul market. Should new LCC airlines being to emerge in this region, AirAisa may experience a reduction in market share (reduced number of passengers) and fierce price competition where AirAisa cuts ticket prices resulting in reduced profit margin. Therefore, company growth based solely on expansion as a LLC airline may not be sustainable. Alternatives Due to AirAsias significant growth and excellent reputation as a result of branding strategies, several alternatives are available for AirAsia to consider. ) With Tony Fernandes experience in purchasing and revamping struggling airlines and the stablished capabilities the company possesses, AirAsia could expand itself by acquiring struggling regional airlines and restructuring them to meet the AirAsia standard of customer service, low costs, and high utilization. 2) Because of its location and access to smaller planes as well as its ability to work well with other companies, AirAsia could Joint venture with an international airline, such as Delta. This Joint venture could be along the lines of providing flights into and out of smaller AirAsia additional branding opportunities through allignment with such a prominent airline. It could also provide AirAsia with an additional customer base that it did not previously have. 3) AirAsias low costs and high aircraft utilization capabilities make it a good option for air cargo shipping. With its growth, AirAsia could expand its resources and enter into the air shipping market where it would likely turn a profit by exploiting its strong capabilities. ) AirAsia current provides inexpensive flights based on a no frills scheme. Should this scheme not interest flyers due to their need and expectation for amenities, AirAisa could consider partnering with large product ompanies such as Coke, Nestle, or Sony to provide food, beverage, or entertainment amenities to passengers. By partnering with large companies, AirAsia could use its planes as advertisements and the company could in turn provid e some of its products to AirAsia at a reduced cost. Recommendation Based on the analysis of AirAsias resources and capabilities with respect to its environment, I recommend the following: 1) AirAisa should discontinue further expansion into long-haul flights due to nontransferable resources and unsustainable low cost and high utilization capabilities. ) AirAsia should further exploit the dense population of budget travelers in South East Asia by expanding its low cost and high utilization capabilities into hotels, shuttles, rental cars, and excursion activities. Since the market AirAsia is catering to is mainly budget leisure travelers; it would be in AirAsias best interest to expand on its offering of services. Because customers perceive additional value in the whole package, hotels, shuttles rental cars and excursions are all compliments to flying. By expanding offerings while implementing ts capabilities and incorporating resources such as its technology system for booking trips and utilizing its partnerships, AirAsia is able to attract more flyers, travelers, and gain additional brand recognition. Based on this, for the next 5 years AirAsia should invest 5% of its yearly profits in service expansion by investing in budget, no frills hotels, rental cars/shuttles, and working deals with partners to provide local activity offerings (in 2012 AirAsias net profit was $562 US million. Should net profit stay the same, 5% over the course of 5 years would total $140. US million). 3) Also, as South East Asia becomes more developed and prosperous AirAsia should focus on providing additional value to business travelers and those budget travelers who desire a few extra accommodations. In order to grow and meet the demands of the customers, AirAsia should invest in some fleet upgrades to provide additional customer value. Over the next 10 years the company should invest 10% of its yearly profits (approx. $56 US million per year) in adding premium sections to the planes with seats at the front of the craft, providing USB ports in the arm rests, as well as roviding internet services; seat size and leg room will remain the same in order to accommodate the same number of passengers per flight. The cost of a premium seat will be only slightly higher for those individuals who choose to purchase the upgrade. Unlike long-haul strategies, the goal is not to significantly increase price to subsidize economy class tickets. The key in providing upgraded seats is to ensure customers feel as though they are receiving an extra value and to help retain customer base and market share as regional economics improve.

Writing a Sample of Mathematical Induction Essay

Writing a Sample of Mathematical Induction EssayIf you want to write a sample of mathematical induction essay, then this article will help you. As a student of mathematics and essay writing, I can tell you that there are many techniques that you can use to make your essay better than most other applicants. The most important thing is to understand the basic principles of mathematical induction.Mathematical induction is a process that involves creating a question in order to allow the reader to learn something about the topic. It will do this by establishing two points: The answer to the question and the relevance of the answer. The best way to explain how this works is to use an example. Let's assume that you are writing a sample of mathematical induction essay for the job of page editor at a math journal. How would you go about answering the question 'What is pi?'Before we can answer this question, there is a main problem that needs to be addressed. If you do not address this proble m, then you will have a difficult time explaining why it is necessary to have more than one point in your essay. Now, we need to discuss the most obvious point: The question itself. Your answer to the question will involve the answer to the question and the fact that the answer will be used in order to answer the question. In order to make sure that the answers to the question and the relevance of the answer are relevant, you will need to make sure that you have discussed it sufficiently in your essay. After you have addressed the main idea of the question, you will need to address some of the less-important details. We will start with the answer to the first question. You will need to show the reader the relevance of the answer by introducing the term 'pi' in the answer to the question. Your essay will need to make sure that you discuss the relevance of the answer in sufficient detail. The next point will involve the relevance of the answer by introducing the term 'depth'. This term i s designed to explain why the question must be asked in the first place. The point of asking the question is to show the readers that they are going to get a deeper understanding of the topic when they learn more about it.As a conclusion, you need to introduce the main idea by using the term 'invariance' to describe the relationship between the main concept and the side topic. In addition, it will help to make sure that you address the last point that concerns the relationship between the main concept and the side topic. In short, you will need to make sure that your essay does not contain any information that is not relevant to the main idea.Writing a sample of mathematical induction essay will take a little bit of work, but it is well worth it in the end. As you write, you will find that you gain a better understanding of how to use your subject matter in the best way possible.
